  3. The COSTEP (Comprehensive Suprathermal Energetic Particle Analyzer) instruments are designed to detect 
  4. suprathermal and energetic particle populations of solar, interplanetary, and galactic origin. Specifically, particle 
  5. emissions from the Sun for several species (electrons, protons, and heavier nuclei) are used to sample, in collaboration 
  6. with other SOHO particle experiments, solar material and to interpret the results in correlation with observations of their 
  7. source regions taken with SOHO's optical telescopes.
